About this tour

What to Expect at the Marrakech Babouch Making Workshop

Okay, so imagine this – instead of buying those touristy slippers from the souk that everyone has, you actually MAKE your own! This Marrakech babouch making workshop is seriously one of the coolest things I’ve done in the medina, and I’m not even exaggerating. You spend about 3.5 hours with this awesome guy Youssef who’s been making leather stuff his whole life, and he teaches you how to create real Moroccan babouche from scratch. MoroccoPlan hooked me up with this experience, and now I tell everyone about it!

Here’s why it’s so sick: you’re in Youssef’s actual workshop where he works every day. This babouche making class Marrakech style means you’re using the same tools and leather that real craftsmen use, just like in a traditional pottery workshop. You’re cutting, stitching, and creating something with your own hands that you’ll actually wear! And when you need a break (because yeah, your fingers will get tired), they bring out these homemade pastries and mint tea that are absolutely bomb.

Local Tips for Your Marrakech Babouch Making Workshop

Real talk about making the most of your Marrakech babouch making workshop: wear old clothes or something you don’t care about. You might get some leather dye or glue on you – nothing crazy, but don’t wear your fancy stuff. The make your own Babouche Marrakech process gets a bit messy!

Try to book the morning session – it’s way cooler temperature-wise, and then you can wear your new slippers around town all afternoon showing them off! Bring a small bag to carry them home safe – they’re leather so they’re tough, but you don’t want them getting crushed.

Ready to experience the thrill of Marrakech babouch making workshop? Reserve your spot today and discover the real craft scene in the medina with trusted local artisans! The free cancellation up to 24 hours out is clutch, plus that book-now-pay-later thing means you can lock it in right now. Trust me, wearing slippers you made yourself is a whole different level of cool.

Itinerary

So you meet at the post office in Jamaa el Fna Square – literally EVERYONE knows where this is, even if you get lost, just ask anyone. Your guide (mine was this sweet lady named Amina) meets you there and walks you through the medina maze to the local artisan studio in medina. No way you'd find this place solo – it's tucked away in the alleys where real locals work.

When you get to the Traditional craftsman Youssef in medina workshop, this is where it gets real! Youssef shows you everything about leather first – how they prep it, different types, why Moroccan leather is special (spoiler: it's amazing). Then the actual Babouche-making workshop begins! You're gonna learn leather cutting & stitching, using these old-school tools that look ancient but work perfectly. Don't stress if you've never crafted anything – Youssef's super chill and patient, plus your guide translates everything so you won't miss any tricks.

Halfway through, when your hands are like "Ahh, we need a break," it's time for the tea break with Moroccan pastry. And listen, these aren't some store cookies – Youssef's family makes these pastries, and with that sweet-as-hell mint tea? Chef's kiss Perfect time to check out what everyone else is making and snap some pics!

Last part is assembling everything – final stitches, making sure it's all solid, and BAM – you've got your own Pair of Babouche to take home! The whole time, someone's taking photos that they email you later, which is clutch because you're too busy concentrating to take good pics yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Hell no! I'm terrible at DIY stuff and I made a decent pair. Youssef shows you everything step by step, and the guide helps translate. If you can use scissors, you're qualified!

Yeah! It's actually wheelchair accessible, which is super rare in the medina. They can set up private groups too if you need something special. Just tell them when you book.

The post office at Jamaa el Fna – it's this big obvious building that literally everyone knows. They send you Google Maps coords when you book, so you can't screw it up.

Nah, they email them to you after. Which is actually perfect because you're too focused on not messing up your slippers to worry about taking pics!
